Aguilar de la Frontera, Córdoba

Aguilar de la Frontera, Córdoba, has one of the few octagonal squares in Spain. With eight sides, it was built from 1803 to 1806, with clear influences from the square of the same shape in Archidona. Of neoclassical style, it has several arches of access and buildings of several floors. The town hall of Aguilar de la Frontera is located in this square. From its construction until the early 1960's, it fulfilled its main purpose as a food market. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in May 1974.
Unfortunately, since 2019 the town council seems to have fallen into the hands of the most radical wing of the communist party, which is destroying with impunity the cultural and religious heritage of the town.
